The new Structural Plan of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell will create an ecological corridor that will facilitate the connection of the Montgó and the Serra de Bèrnia.

The document is revealed as a strategic instrument in the sustainable planning of the Marina Alta. The mayor highlights the importance of laying the foundations for the urban, social and economic future of the municipality in the next 25 years.

The new Structural Plan of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell has been revealed as a strategic planning instrument for the sustainable development of the Marina Alta. It is one of the conclusions drawn by the new writing team led by architect Alberto Morera. The key geographical location of the municipality makes it a connecting link for natural spaces of great importance, such as the Montgó natural park, the cliffs (protected with the Penya-segats de la Marina LIC), the Serra de Bèrnia and the natural spaces and rural areas in the interior of the region.

In fact, it can already be anticipated that the Structural Plan will create an ecological corridor that will connect the Montgó, the Garganta de Gata and the Serra de Bèrnia. In addition, it will preserve the agricultural landscape (it will also promote the recovery of this economic activity) and protect the coastal front through a network of public viewpoints.

The document also takes advantage of the connection that El Poble Nou de Benitatxell has between strong poles of tourist attraction such as Xàbia and Moraira. It will create a metropolitan boulevard that will improve the urban image of the municipality and make it attractive to tourists through the promotion of its historic center, heritage elements of the importance of the church of Santa María Magdalena, the vineyard landscape and the promotion of traditional trade and cultural activities.

The mayor, Josep Femenia, has stressed the importance of laying the foundations for the urban, social and economic future of the municipality in the next 25 years. That function will be performed by the new Structural Plan, which has another of its pillars in citizen participation. The local government will design a calendar of participatory workshops and meetings with neighbors and groups. The writing team led by Alberto Morera and the municipal technicians will participate in all these meetings. The workshops will also be held during the public exhibition of the Structural Plan.

The document innovates by introducing a regional perspective of urban planning. The criteria of sustainability and defense of the traditional landscape will be made compatible with sustainable urban development. “We are defining the town model we want for the next 25 years. Hence the importance of all neighbors participating in this process,” the mayor insisted.
