Clásicas y Modernas honours María Beneyto, writer of the year 2025 at Benitatxell

The Library hosted yesterday Thursday ‘Getting to know María Beneyto’, an event to pay tribute to one of the most important writers of contemporary Valencian literature, who has been proclaimed writer of the year 2025 by the Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua (Valencian Academy of Language).

In a context of strict censorship and persistent repression, Beneyto breaks the conservative models traditionally assigned to female identity and doubles her poetic and narrative voice in an extraordinary way.

This cultural event, which was attended by a large number of people, was organised by the association Clásicas y Modernas, which has a collaboration agreement with the El Poble Nou de Benitatxell Council to promote equality between women and men through culture.

The event was led by Marina Gilabert and Pepita García, members of Clásicas y Modernas. After a brief description of Maria Beneyto’s life and work, several women participants recited some of the author’s most important poems.

Along with Gilabert and García, Marion Oprel, Kath Misson and Margaret Hales, from the association European Union of Women Marina Alta; Elvira Mahiques, president of the Women’s Association of El Poble Nou de Benitatxell; Maria Pastor, ex-entrepreneur from El Poble Nou, and Isabel Garrido, councillor of Equality, took part. At the end, coffee and sweets were offered.
