Benitatxell’s Health Centre incorporates a Social Worker for primary care

  • This is a key figure to help people access resources and provide emotional support and guidance to improve their overall wellbeing.

El Poble Nou de Benitatxell Health Centre has recently added a new Social Worker to its staff, a key figure in helping people access resources and providing emotional support and guidance to improve their overall wellbeing.

Currently, this service is headed, on Wednesdays every two weeks, by Begoña Roig, Social Worker at Gata de Gorgos Health Centre, which belongs to the Dénia Health Department.

Among the basic services she provides are the detection and intervention in situations of social risk; attention to abused people, whether they are minors, adults or seniors; advice in relation to social problems or problems that appear as a consequence of health problems, such as insolvency in the payment of medication, work incapacity, absence of a carer, etc., and the orientation and procedures for resources such as health coverage, reimbursement of expenses, obtaining orthopaedic material, recognition of a degree of disability, etc.

She also collaborates in the prevention and promotion of health through activities to promote sexual and reproductive health, healthy habits and family care, assessing and providing volunteer staff, if necessary, according to the needs of the patient.

But these are not her only functions, as she carries out specific Primary Care programmes that try to help different vulnerable groups:

  • Women’s Health Programme during pregnancy, childbirth and puerperium, which identifies social risk factors and carries out individualised monitoring, providing information, guidance and assessment of social and health resources and support networks.
  • Violence against women programme. • Health programme for the elderly people. Detection of elderly people with socio-family problems in order to plan the necessary intervention.
  • Home care health programme that captures the dependent population in a situation of social risk, making home visits to assess their situation and the state of the home in order to inform and provide guidance on the resources available to them.
  • Protocol for immigrants. Elaboration of social and health intervention strategies that try to alleviate the deficiencies of the health system.
  • Programme of care for children and adolescents in the health sector. Contribute to raising the level of health and quality of life of this population, acting to reduce risk factors.
