- The Local Security Board held yesterday, Wednesday, analysed the security numbers and resources in the municipality, where the delinquency level is ten points below the provincial average.
El Poble Nou de Benitatxell Council held yesterday, Wednesday, the Local Security Board, a meeting headed by the sub-delegate of the government in Alicante, Juan Antonio Nieves, and the mayor, Miguel Ángel García. Also present were the councillor of Security, María José Ivars; from the Civil Guard, the head colonel of the Alicante Command, José Hernández; the head commander of the Calpe headquarters, Antonio Jesús García, and the lieutenant commander of the main post in Jávea, José Javier Mañas; from the National Police Force, the sub-inspector of Dénia and head of the Immigration Brigade, Jesús Hernández; from the Autonomous Police, the provincial chief inspector of Alicante, María Luisa Rodríguez and the operational inspector, José Antonio Fernández, and from the Local Police, the officer José Vicente García and the agents José Luís Blanco and José Luís Esteve.
The meeting was intended to approve the previous meeting and review the crime numbers, which, as Colonel Hernandez pointed out, ‘are very good’. The session included a comparative report from the Civil Guard with various crime rates for 2024 compared to the previous year, as well as for 2025, from January to April, compared to the same period in 2024.
The most significant fact is that crime has fallen by 12% at El Poble Nou de Benitatxell compared to the previous period. Another relevant data is that the crime rate is ten points below the provincial average. In terms of typology, the main crimes are thefts in private homes and crimes against patrimony. And as far as clarification is concerned, the number is also very good, as more than 80% of the cases have been solved. The government sub-delegate congratulated the municipality and all the security forces for these results, and affirmed that ‘objectively, the numbers are in line with reality, they show us the way forward and indicate that a job well done pays off’.
The meeting also focused on the issue of violence against women, where the colonel emphasised the ‘magnificent collaboration between the Civil Guard and the Local Police, especially in the protection of victims of violence against women’, since, as he stated, ‘we ask for support from the police for serious cases’ that require 24-hour surveillance. The municipality currently has 27 active cases of victims of violence against women, of which 12 are monitored by the Civil Guard and 15 by the Local Police, according to their level of risk.
The agent Blanco, a member of the Grup Llorença, a unit of the Local Police specialising in violence against women, emphasised that ‘the statistics remain the same every year, but it can be seen that the victims are less afraid to report it because they feel protected and accompanied’.
For his part, Lieutenant Mañas again stressed the collaboration with the Local Police, with whom the head of the Local Police, José Vicente García, agreed. ‘Our relationship is very good, unbeatable, both personally and professionally. This has a great influence on the safety of the municipality, as working with people close to us with whom we have a good relationship is always positive for providing a good service,’ said Mañas, to which García added that “both the mayor’s office and the entire government team are aware that there is coordination and a relationship with all the forces which is very pleasing and which, from our point of view, will provide a solution to many of the problems we are dealing with”.
The lieutenant added that 15 new officers will soon be joining the main headquarters in Jávea, plus a number of trainees, which will help to reinforce security in the area.
This news was welcomed by the mayor, who explained that ‘it is something very necessary, because from the Local Police we collaborate and help as much as we can, but we also have some limitations in terms of number of agents. A lot is demanded from all the agents, and they always do their best, but I know that they make an enormous effort’.
García also highlighted the good harmony with the other bodies, the National Police, which deals with cases of foreigners, and the Autonomous Police, with jurisdiction over the control of establishments, leisure and shows, such as bullfighting, as well as the Previfoc patrols.
But, as could not be otherwise, he especially wanted to emphasise the work of the Local Police, to whom he expressed his admiration. ‘We are very proud, because we see the great work they do every day. People are not aware of it. Every citizen should go through government positions to appreciate the great work of the security forces in general and especially of our Local Police. Thank you’.
Finally, the subdelegado de gobierno insisted on the importance of using the ‘AlertCops’ application, a mobile App with features such as an SOS alert button that instantly sends the victim’s location to the nearest police forces for urgent attention. This function is especially useful for victims of violence against women or sexually assaulted victims, as they can alert the security forces without their aggressor being aware of them.
Also in the Plan Director, through which, so far this year, four talks have already been given to students in the municipality on the dangers and correct use of new technologies. ‘We must insist on this resource to reach young people with the objective of raising their awareness and preventing drug use and other practices so that they do not get involved in criminal situations’.
