Marco García Torres is giving a lot of talk in the world of Spanish U16 athletics. The 15-year-old athlete from Puebla is part of the Baleària Diànium Athletics Club and this last year he has achieved personal bests and excellent results, consolidating himself among the best national middle-distance runners of his age.
On October 8, he was proclaimed champion of Spain with the Valencian U16 team in the Spanish U16 Championship for regional federations held in Gijón. Marco finished fifth in the 1,500m hurdles event, a very good result that helped the Valencian team beat the Community of Madrid and win gold. His teammate Daniel Barrera Sala also participated, who came first in the 4x100m relay event.
But it is not the only recent success of the athlete from El Poble Nou de Benitatxell. Two weeks earlier he was the winner of the 1,500m hurdles event (4:44.54) in the U16 Autonomous Critérium, which qualified him directly for the aforementioned Spanish U16 Championship by Autonomous Federations. And this last month the men's team of the Baleària Diànium Athletics Club to which it belongs has placed eighth in the Spanish team championship and also eighth in the Autonomous Cross Country Critérium, qualifying for the Spanish team Championship.
In addition, last season in May he obtained the minimum mark (4:37.49) for participation in the 1,500m obstacles control test for the Spanish U16 Championship, in June he was proclaimed regional champion in the 1,500m obstacles (4 :32.51) of the U16 Individual Outdoor Championship and sixth in Spain in the 1,500m hurdles (4:31.11) in the U16 Individual Championship held in La Nucia, thus improving his personal best.
Marco García has been making athletics his passion for almost ten years. He started at the age of six participating in races in the towns of La Marina and at the age of seven he joined the Llebeig Xàbia Athletics Club, without knowing then that a long and prosperous future awaited him as an athlete.
